Ethel Lee Rivers

–

Charleston, South Carolina

Ethel Lee Rivers, Daughter of the late Sara Wilder Whaley and Percy Walker, was born on December 12, 1922 on James Island, South Carolina.
Ethel attended the public schools on James Island. She met, fell in love and married Mr. Alvin Rivers, Sr. Ethel was a loyal and dedicated employee at James Island Middle School, where she performed custodial duties.
As a young woman, Ethel Rivers learned to have faith in God. She sowed seeds of faith early in life. She sowed those seeds with great pride and dignity. As a result, her seeds produced wondrous blessings in her life.
When Ethel faced challenges, she never complained, but took her yoke upon herself and faithfully learned to depend on the Lord for strength.
Ethel lost her husband when her children were young; however she never faltered, but sucessfully raised her children into adulthood with discipline and love. Ethel possed inner strength as a result of her unshakeble faith and trust in God.
She was independent and exhibted a no-nonsense attitude. She was truly about her Father's Business. She was immaculate in all areas of her life, from appearence, home and surroundings. She still remained displined and strong in faith even as her health declined.
Ethel love her family and community. She was friendly and generous to everyone. We will miss her, but God called a virtuous woman home to live in His Kingdom.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her children Mr. Michael (Martha) Wilder of James Island, SC and Mrs. Laverne (Leroy) Gathers of New York, NY, (two children preceded her in death, Cathleen (Joseph) Simmons and Alvin (Jakie) Rivers, Jr.; three aunts, Mrs. Mary Robinson of James Island, SC, Mrs. Beaulah Walker and Mrs. Wilhelmenia Myles both of New York City; Twelve grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; best friend, Sis. Rebecca Gillard and loyal cargivers, Ms. Yvonne Rodgers and Ms. Audrey Wilder., Three Siblings, Ora Bell Wilder, Francina Birch and Samuel Prince Wilder also preceded her in death.
