Charleston, South Carolina
Richardine Elizabeth Wright , daughter of the late Richard and Helen Wright was born on August 7, 1935 in Charleston, South Carolina. She was one of fourteen children, seven boys and seven girls.
A Time To Live
Richardine was affectionately known as "Dena". She attended the public schools of Charleston County. At a very young age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Israel R. E. Church now known as New Israel R. E. Church. Her service at New Israel was one of dedication and faithfulness. She sang on the choir, attended Sunday School and attended weekly revivals with her entire family. As an adult, she sang on the S. K. Rembert Choir, the Senior Choir, the Israelite Choir, was a member of the Ladies of Love and the assistant chairperson of the Stained-Glass Window Committee under the leadership of Carrie S. Rembert. Her efforts on that committee resulted in the installation of a stained-glass window at the entrance of the church. She was a faithful member and participated in many other church activities. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 37. Dena was employed at M.U.S.C in the Environmental Services Department and was also employed at New Israel Christian Day School as the Head-Cook from 1988-2007. She had a humorous side and loved to kid around. She enjoyed her work and if you got in her way, she would run you out of the kitchen. That kitchen belonged to her! Everyone loved her, and she loved everyone in a way that only "Dena" could. She was truly a joy to be around.
A Time to Love
"Dena" was joined in Holy Matrimony in 1952 to Mr. Samuel Clifton Sawyer. She was the mother of eight children, loved her family and shared a special closeness with all of them. Especially her devoted sister Carolyn.
